Do I always need an appointment?
No, you may drop-in to the Writing Center and request a consultant to work with you. Especially at the beginning of semesters, consultants are usually available. However, as the semester progresses, we tend to get busier – sometimes all consultants are booked with appointments. So, appointments are recommended, but not required.
Can I get an online appointment or do I always have to come to the Writing Center?
You may send a paper draft to us via email as an attachment. We will make suggestions for revision and improvement. We will not edit or proofread the paper. Papers will be returned within 48 hours.
What should I bring with me to an appointment?
You don’t have to bring anything with you, but a copy of the writing assignment and anything you have written so far in response to the assignment are always helpful.
What happens during an appointment?
Just before your Writng Center consultation session begins, we ask that you login on the NKU TutorTrac login screen. Then, we will ask you two questions: when is your paper due and how can we help you? If you request help getting started, we will discuss your assignment with you and show you some brainstorming strategies. If you request help revising a draft, you or your consultant will read the draft out loud and the consultant will ask questions and make suggestions. If you request help with editing or proofreading, you will read the paper out loud and the consultant will identify issues and point out errors; you will make all changes and corrections. Can I leave my paper in the Center to be worked on by a consultant?
No, we do not write, rewrite, edit, or proofread papers for students. But we will do all those things with students. Therefore, your presence is very important, if not essential!
